HITA Talk: CHamoru Orthography

The Guam Museum is honored to welcome Jimmy Teria, Co-chairperson of the CHamoru Heritage Commission, or I Kumision i Fino’ CHamoru yan i Fina’någuen i Historia yan i Lina’la i Taotao Tåno (The Commission on CHamoru Language and the Teaching of History and Culture of the Indigenous People of Guam). Having been reestablished for a year, the Kumision continues its mandate of developing the CHamoru orthography, while now additionally advising on historical accuracies within Chamoru history and culture. Teria will share a brief history of the Kumision and the importance of the CHamoru orthography, and speak more about their current projects and work surrounding CHamoru language practices and indigenous language strategies.

Ha’ånen Familia — CHamoru Pottery

Learn about ancient CHamoru pre-latte’ and latte’ pottery shapes, purposes and designs. The Guam Museum welcomes artist, Taliea Guerrero-Stromeyer (Colour Guam) for clay shaping and an activity in replicating the ancient containers of I Manaotao Tåno’. Materials are limited.
