Why Micronesia?

Welcome to Micronesia, a spellbinding world abounding with warm caressing breezes, captivatingly rich culture and exotic adventure all dancing around in unison under the thick golden rays of an arching tropical sun. The mysterious, the magical and the modern sides of life all lie within easy reach for the welcomed visitor, just like a swollen ripe mango dropping from a mango tree into a waiting hand.

 

Together with Guam, Micronesia comprises of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau, with each different island chain offering a unique and unforgettable experience.

ISLANDS OF MICRONESIA

Guam, a U.S. territory, is the largest and most populous island, considered the “gateway” to Micronesia and a hub for the region.


The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) is a U.S. Commonwealth consisting of 14 islands just to the north of Guam, and along with Guam, forms the Mariana Islands archipelago.


The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and Palau are both independent island nations in a Compact of Free Association with the U.S. and together make up the nations in Caroline Islands archipelago to the south of Guam.


The Republic of the Marshall Islands is also an independent island in a Compact of Free Association with the U.S. approximately 1500 miles to the east of Guam, and is comprised of many small low lying islands and atolls.

For those of us who seek out locations where dreams long for reality, there are still a few left in the world where unspoiled landscapes, epic adventures and the romance of a secluded lagoon and forgotten beach can become reality.  Beneath expansive azure skies and seemingly infinite stretches of both turquoise and deep blue water ahead, the region of Micronesia is still one of those places.

As modern technology and communication connect the world at an ever greater pace and the once exotic places of yesterday become increasingly rare today, it is refreshing to find hidden jewels still available for exploration, admiration, and yes, even relaxation.

Boonie Stomp - Tagu’on

We descend 256 steps to a rugged coastline of northeastern Guam, then walk over the reef and around the sea cliffs to a giant sea cave, with swimming and snorkeling if the water is calm. Bring: 3 quarts water, get wet shoes, gloves, swim suit, snorkel gear, sun screen, insect repellent, lunch, and camera. Special conditions: Walking on rough rocks, walking in the water, possible surf, and a steep climb out up the steps.
 

Boonie Stomp - Ben’s Falls w/ Mt. Lamlam

We follow a small cool green hidden stream full of small cascades and swim pools to journey to 3 big waterfalls on the upper Sella River in southern Guam. The adventurous can continue on to the false summit of Mt. Lamlam. Bring: 3 quarts water, get wet shoes, gloves, sun screen, insect repellent, lunch, and camera. Special conditions: Walking in water through a rocky river, steep slopes through sword grass, and climbing falls with a rope.
 

Boonie Stomp - Tarzan Falls

We journey to a series of three cooling waterfalls in central Guam. Enjoy exploring the top of the falls, swim at the large, picturesque first falls, jump and swim at the middle falls, and relax and swim at the large third falls. Bring: 2 quarts water, hiking shoes, gloves, swimsuit, sun screen, lunch, insect repellent, and camera. Special Conditions: muddy trail, several hills up and down, slippery rocks.

Boonie Stomp - Tinago Falls

We hike to a perfect family waterfall spot in a hidden valley of southeastern Guam that has two beautiful drop falls and a series of cascading ledges that are perfect for the small ones. We’ll enjoy swimming, jumping, rock sliding, a rope swing, and even a hammock. Bring: 2 quarts water, hiking shoes, swim suit, sunglasses, sun screen, insect repellent, lunch, and camera. Special conditions: Mud, slippery rocks, small steep slopes.

Boonie Stomp - Ylig to Taga’chang

Aug 11    Ylig to Taga’chang     Medium    3 hours for 1.5 miles
 
We explore a unique section of Guam’s central eastern coast. We’ll enjoy jumping and swimming at Turtle Rock, walking the reef while looking for critters in the tidal pools, and fantastic snorkeling and swimming in the reef cracks. Bring: 2 quarts water, water shoes, swimsuit, gloves, sun screen, sunglasses, lunch, and camera. Special conditions: Walking in water, a short stretch of rough rocks, and possible surf.

Boonie Stomp - Guatali Falls

Aug 04    Guatali Falls    Difficult      5 hours for 3.5 miles
 
We hike from the central mountains of Guam down into a remote pristine valley with 4 great waterfalls, with swimming and jumping possible. Bring: 3 quarts water, hiking shoes, swimsuit, gloves, sun screen, sunglasses, insect repellent, lunch, and camera. Special conditions: Walking in water, sword grass, slippery trail, steep slopes, and a long hike up and out.
